SnapDragon (re)introduces herself to The Interwebs.
(whispers) “What’s a SnapDragon. . .?”

Hi. I’m SnapDragon. Well, not really. It’s just a nom de plume because I have anxiety and it’s easier that way.
So, I’ll start with the basics. I’m a 30-something wife, mom, and woman with a passion for all things authentic. I love contemporary fiction, travel, delicious food, and quality artistry. And by quality artistry I mean music, cinema, paintings, and other creations that are authentically produced. I’m not interested in performers or ghost-writers. I want the real-deal, made-with-her-own-hands experience. True quality takes years–maybe even a lifetime–of dedication, practice, and experience. We live in a world where most people try to get a Ph.D on their lunch break, so I have the utmost respect for true artists (of any medium) who create and produce original work. Life’s too short to waste on cheap imitations. I can’t. I won’t.
I’m also a certified high school English teacher. I taught for the better part of a decade in a high-risk, urban area. In short, I met teens from all around the world, and aged about twenty years from the stress of it all. But I also had the time of my life. Those students taught me invaluable lessons about life I will never forget. I’ll return to the classroom one day, but for now I’m home, and grateful.
I’m working on my first novel, which I vow to submit for publication by 2027, the year I turn the Big 4-0. I also paint expressionist pieces, which you can view on my Instagram @snippetsofsnapdragon. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed by my desire to create that I sit on the couch and watch hours of Food Network instead. It’s an artist’s curse, I suppose. The Overwhelm.
Hmm, what else, what else? I love living a simple life with my husband, two cats, and our sweet new baby. I love being home, under a blanket, all cozied up. What can I say? It’s life in the fast lane, yo. I have no desire for high-risk adventure, but delight in the fictitious mishaps of the silver screen. So many stories, so little time.
But above all, I just want to be an authentic person. Whether it’s through my creative output or day-to-day interactions, I hope to spread a little positivity, intelligence, and compassion to others.
Because here I am, and here you are, and I know we can all do great things with the time we have.
So it’s nice to meet ya, love.
Let’s be friends.

It probably goes without saying that they are my favorite, too. They’re so beautiful, yet are often forgotten. 🕊

Hey SnapDragon. I love your intro. I too love my simple life, primarily because I find life to be pretty complicated and my brain is always on overload. My favorite days are UNEVENTFUL, blessed blessed everything’s-just-fine days. I always felt like I was supposed to be an artist so sometimes I up and make little things but I never really know what I’m doing -highly untrained. I’ve been a performer (theatre, music, dance) all my life and now just teach dance and dance fitness and am in a small and new dance company. I’m putting 90% of my energy into getting my blog off the ground. I’m also a new contributor to The Bipolar Writer blog. Other than that I’m niche-less; I talk about just different things. I’ll be reading you! I love your wit and lively personality!

Thank you, friend! It’s nice to learn more about you. I took two years of tap and ballet when I was a young girl. Of course now I wish I had stayed with it, but at the time I was afraid of the wooden blocks in the slippers. ☺️ Anyway, I’ll be sure to check out your posts! 🕊

I am also a fan of creative people and the simple life, so we’ve got that in common. I’ve also thought about writing a book, but your schedule to have one completed by 2027 is way too ambitious for me! 🙂

Good Morning SnapDragon,
Thank you for sharing your story. I admire the simplicity and the positivity of your work. Can I ask what your novel is about? Ps. I followed you on Instagram. I also paint but not seriously, in my opinion.
Have a great day!
