The Simple Life.

Hi.

I’m having a moment here, sitting in the RV love seat, watching our baby sleep.

How perfectly peaceful he looks.

Stretched out, bare feet, full belly.

Sometimes when he smiles—or laughs at his reflection in the mirror—it breaks my heart at how very simple life can be.

He knows nothing of the outside world.

He knows not the sickening meaning of confederate flags flapping along the interstate.

He doesn’t hear the appalling things adults say to one another, swerving in traffic, or trolling on the internet.

He doesn’t worry about climate change or fake news or demagogues.

He knows absolutely nothing of angels or demons, or how human beings have spent millennia slaughtering each other over difference in beliefs.

He does not know how history has shamefully repeated itself.

He breathes in and out.

So do I.

So do we.

. . .
