About SnapDragon.

Let’s Get Acquainted.

SnapDragon (re)introduces herself to The Interwebs.

(whispers) “What’s a SnapDragon. . .?”

Hi. I’m SnapDragon. Well, not really. It’s just a nom de plume because I have anxiety and it’s easier that way.

So, I’ll start with the basics. I’m a 30-something wife, mom, and woman with a passion for all things authentic. I love contemporary fiction, travel, delicious food, and quality artistry. And by quality artistry I mean music, cinema, paintings, and other creations that are authentically produced. I’m not interested in performers or ghost-writers. I want the real-deal, made-with-her-own-hands experience. True quality takes years–maybe even a lifetime–of dedication, practice, and experience. We live in a world where most people try to get a Ph.D on their lunch break, so I have the utmost respect for true artists (of any medium) who create and produce original work. Life’s too short to waste on cheap imitations. I can’t. I won’t.

I’m also a certified high school English teacher. I taught for the better part of a decade in a high-risk, urban area. In short, I met teens from all around the world, and aged about twenty years from the stress of it all. But I also had the time of my life. Those students taught me invaluable lessons about life I will never forget. I’ll return to the classroom one day, but for now I’m home, and grateful.

I’m working on my first novel, which I vow to submit for publication by 2027, the year I turn the Big 4-0. I also paint expressionist pieces, which you can view on my Instagram @snippetsofsnapdragon. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed by my desire to create that I sit on the couch and watch hours of Food Network instead. It’s an artist’s curse, I suppose. The Overwhelm.

Hmm, what else, what else? I love living a simple life with my husband, two cats, and our sweet new baby. I love being home, under a blanket, all cozied up. What can I say? It’s life in the fast lane, yo. I have no desire for high-risk adventure, but delight in the fictitious mishaps of the silver screen. So many stories, so little time.

But above all, I just want to be an authentic person. Whether it’s through my creative output or day-to-day interactions, I hope to spread a little positivity, intelligence, and compassion to others.

Because here I am, and here you are, and I know we can all do great things with the time we have.

So it’s nice to meet ya, love.

Let’s be friends.

The Answer.

The Answer, friends, is beer. Heavenly, handcrafted beer.

Now, before you refer me to my local AA meeting, I’m specifically talking about The Answer, a brewpub located in Richmond, Virginia. Also, it’s pronounced on-sir, after its founder An Bui, whose portrait proudly hangs on display.

This place is off. the. chain.

The Husband and I have visited over 150 breweries (and counting!) over the past several years, and therefore pride ourselves in having a weee bit of street cred.

This is my new favorite.

(Okay, okay, you’re right. Hill Farmstead is still Number One. But it still blew me away. I talked about this place all damn weekend!)

Sitting down for some tasters, I just had to try the famous “Joose” selections. I’m only sorry I couldn’t try them all.

Sample #1:

3 Scoops: Pineapple, Coconut, Strawberry: Sour – Ale

The scent of this alone is divine, like walking into an Anthropologie: sophisticated citrus you just want to dive into. The taste is a perfectly nuanced fruit explosion. Yes, you need it in your life. How far do you live from Richmond?

Sample #2:

Triple 3 Scoops: Passionfruit, Lemonade, Mango:  Sour – Ale

This is yet another 5-star ranking from The Answer. Just as I was known in the classroom, I’m a harsh grader when it comes to beer. It’s gotta be exceptional if you want an A. And friends, this makes the cut and then some.

While I could certainly go on about the other masterfully balanced brews we tried, I need to take a moment to tell you about the food! (emphatically pounds fist on the table)

If I believed in Heaven, it would be a magical place filled with Paul McCartney albums and Asian cuisine. To me there is nothing more flavorful and artistic. (I’m specifically referring to the food, but we can apply that to Paul as well. It works.)

This was my lunch:

The Viet Brussel Sprouts main dish did not disappoint. The mushrooms and red pepper medley danced so beautifully with the garlic sauce that I was momentarily distracted from the beer! (Oh, yeah. I also ordered veggie steamed dumplings but promptly devoured them before I could snap a photo. I like to eat. Sue me.)

I love my life.

So, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m obsessed with The Answer. It’s fresh. It’s excellent. And it’s beyond worthy of a road trip.
